Job Summary:
Evaluates quality of resident care and outcomes as they relate to healthcare-associated infections; collects, prepares, and analyzes healthcare-associated infection data, presents infection data and makes recommendations for actions, monitors employee compliance in use of barriers and infection prevention measures; prepares and presents educational offerings for the staff, serves as a resource to all departments and personnel; implements programs to protect the healthcare workers, visitors and others in the health care environment; sets and recommends policies and procedures to prevent adverse events; provides internal and external reporting of information and data; promotes compliance with regulations; guidelines, and accreditation

Job Responsibilities:

  1. Renders care to residents according to nursing standards and policies.
  2. Assess infection control problems and makes recommendations.
  3. Prepares the agenda for the infection control committee.
  4. Monitors infection control practices and employee compliance.
  5. Serves as a resource for all departments and personnel.
  6. Initiates and revises infection control policies and procedures.
  7. Conducts outbreak investigations and initiates control measures.
  8. Consults with department heads and physicians as needed to improve care.
  9. Initiates follow-up on employee/resident exposure to communicable disease.
  10. Participates in performance improvement activities.
  11. Administers medication and treatments as prescribed.
  12. Has direct function for acute medical/nursing care plan and documentation pertaining to infections.
  13. Assists with development of interdisciplinary care plan and aides in maintaining review.
  14. Supervises nursing personnel assigned to the staff dealing with residents and their infections.
  15. Assists in teaching residents and in training new personnel.
  16. Keeps Unit Managers informed.
  17. Participates in nursing committees.
  18. Satisfies all educational in-service requirements mandated by CHI Living Communities, the department, external accrediting, and regulatory agencies:

a. Attends all mandatory in-service programs

 b. Adheres to facility policies and procedures.

c. Completes yearly online education program by deadline.

d. Attends employee meetings on a regular basis.

In addition to the essential job specific duties listed above, the Infection Preventionist shall be required to perform all duties (essential and non-essential) in a manner consistent with the mission and values (compassion, excellence, inclusion, integrity, collaboration) of CHI Living Communities and will be evaluated on such basis. Furthermore, every employee must abide by all campus, departmental, and safety policies, rules, and regulations.

Job Requirements

  • Associate’s Degree from an accredited School of Nursing. 
  • Registered Nurse currently licensed in the state of employment.
  • Long-term care experience preferred. 
  • Currently certified in CPR.
  • Completion of a basic training program for Infection Control Certification in Infection Control is desired
  • Ability to develop policies and procedures
  • Ability to teach and evaluate clinical performance
